Creating and managing chapters

What is a chapter?

Chapters are logical ways to group articles in your publication, just like you would in a print publication.

All Wordpond publications have access to the chapter features.

How do chapters work on Wordpond?

You can apply Chapters to publications with and without issues.

If chapters are applied to publications with issues, they will automatically be available in every issue.

If you have chapters that do not always have content in every issue, this is no problem:

If a chapter is 'empty,' meaning there are no articles in the Chapter, the Chapter will not show in your published version.

Setting up chapters

To set up chapters, go to the Settings of your publication and select the Content tab.

The Chapter functionality is only available for publications where the order of articles is Manual.

Make sure the order of articles is Manual. The controls for adding Chapters will then show.

Click 'Add Chapter' to add a new chapter.

You can rename, move, and delete chapters you created.

To rename a Chapter:

  • click the 'edit' icon
  • type in the new name
  • click the Ok-icon to confirm the change

To delete a Chapter, click the 'delete' icon

When you delete a chapter, the articles in that Chapter are not deleted but become 'unassigned.' You can assign them to another chapter if desired.

Moving an article into a Chapter

On the Article List page, drag the article into the desired Chapter using the move icon at the left of the Chapter title.

Make sure to click Confirm at the bottom of the screen

The title and Chapter are shown on the top navigation bar when editing an article.

You can change the Chapter here as well.

Chapters and Table-of-Contents

Frequently, we see publishers create an overview or intro pages for a specific chapter, with a table of contents for that Chapter only.

Our Table of Contents component supports this. Once you have enabled chapters, you can select to display only articles from this Chapter in the table of contents component.

You can place this 'table of contents' component on any article by selecting it from the component list.
